New share dealing platform - what do you want

Recommended Posts

Had an email on the new platform today for share dealing. Looks good and same as the spread betting one so that’s a good start. Good charts and whatever.

but I thought it would’ve a good idea to see if we can create a wish list for the new platform for share dealing?

ill start....

Automatic dividend reinvestments! DRIP functionality is a must.

The ability to have two separate instances of two different trading platforms in two different tabs of my browser.

Right now if I navigate to the new share dealing platform in one tab, my spread betting account in the other tab automatically redirects to the new share dealing platform also.

Totally unnecessary.

Would like a full Level 2 functionality (albeit a premium paid for service) as there are very few platforms in my opinion that have a decent GUI on UK Level 2 (IG CFD Level 2 is limited to select securities) . And the ability to invest in funds (not just Investment Trusts). This is one of the reasons I donlt have an ISA or SIPP with IG as they don't allow you to buy OIECs

This is a great idea - the new platform will have future iterations coming, so it would be interesting to hear what you need, and why?  The more context we have to understand what is needed, the more it helps us build the right thing. Please do keep the suggestions coming.

investment webpage is full of this stuff, https://www.ig.com/uk/investments/news/investing/2018/03/27/how-compounding-works-to-supercharge-your-investments

but then the share dealing platform doesn't allow automatic dividend reinvestment.

Will be good if the daily profit / loss can be seen in (my positions). Also will be good to see change during the day. (Up or down)

The positions panel shows the P/L, P/L %, and P\L GBP.  Is this what you're after, or are you looking for an 'overall positions P\L" to show?
As for change, if you mean % change per position, then we are aware of that one. If you mean something different, please do clarify so I can add it to the request list.
Thank you

L2 is available on the new platform, which can be turned on via MyIG (dashboard), Settings, and Data Feeds.
It shows up on the ticket like this (attached).
If this doesn't meet your needs, please do tell us more about what you need and why, so we can add this to our request list for improvements.
Thank you

I want the old platform back - this is diabolical

Can you let us know what it is you don't like. You will still have access to the old platform using the dropdown next to 'Share dealing' on the MyIG page, whist you learn how the new platform works (we appreciate it's quite different to the old platform).

interesting.

the whole data feed thing with the new platform is so poor tho and complex. We really want to just flick it on in the platform - or see delayed prices for example.

Also ETF's aren't great. You want to search for SPY - the most liquid and heavily traded ETF in the world and you get this

why in this order? I have to go 5th one down to find it (and even then that's only because I know the rough price of it at the moment. Anyone else would go for the top one, which is a weird Australian dollar version?

and god know about all the rest...

New Platform:

- visually unappealing - tried to be too clean with minimalistic design but makes everything difficult to access.

- No simple access to information on stocks and shares e.g. RNS announcements / news

- screens constantly closing and having to be reopened to view markets

- inability to quickly move graphs and aspects of screens.

In simple terms - scrap the new system.

Hey, developers asked why you wanted both open. Is it simply to have the ease of flicking over to another tab and accessing the other account rather than constantly changing between the two?

Yes that's right.  I might want to be dealing in shares and spread bets at the same time 🤠

Also, the moment you open up another account, all the pop out windows - eg say charts, prices etc that you have nicely arranged on your desktop disappear. So to flick between trading accounts is not that easy as your trading layout keeps being deleted each time. Doing it once a day is acceptable if slightly annoying but any more and it becomes restrictive on your trading activity.  There is no way to save the dealing platform layout with automatic chart windows open up OUTSIDE the browser window each time you login.

Few ideas:

  • Open/close positions from chart
  • Dividend automatic reinvestment
  • Daily P/L
  • Transparency on FX cost when dealing in other currencies in the "History" tab - my account is in £ and when I buy shares in $ I don't see any commission, but I end up paying a variable FX cost. That should be clearly visible, not incorporated in the total transaction amount.
  • Trailing stop loss
  • Ability to reorder watch lists on the left menu
  • Show stop/limit orders on chart
  • Ability to remove sections in the left menu (i.e. not interested in cryptocurrencies)
  • In the "history" section I see value always negative even when I'm selling (which should money in, not out). I guess this is a bug.
  • Adding funds and more stock markets (i.e. Italy missing)

Most of those points would be solved giving access to share dealing to PRT.

I think you have done a great job, needs just some fine tuning.

I have L2 enabled but I cannot see the market depth for any equities as you mention above.

    • US Dollar (DXY) Daily Price and Analysis US Q1 GDP may stall the greenback’s advance. A 20-year high nears for the US dollar. The multi-month US dollar rally continues with the greenback printing a fresh high today ahead of the first look at US Q1 GDP at 12.30 GMT. The US dollar basket (DXY) has been boosted by renewed weakness in the Euro and the Japanese Yen, as investors move from lower-yielding to higher-yielding currencies, while safe-haven flows continue to benefit the greenback. The US growth release later in the session is expected to show a sharp slowdown from the robust Q4 figure of 6.9%. The markets are currently pricing in growth of just 1% for the first three months of this year, with the slowdown mainly due to a reduction in inventory accrual over the quarter. This release is unlikely to move the greenback, unless there is a large miss or beat, as the Fed believe that 2022 US growth will be robust enough to let them tighten monetary policy sharply without damaging the economy. The latest US Core PCE data – the Fed’s preferred inflation reading – is released on Friday and this may have more effect on the US dollar than today’s GDP data. For all market moving economic data and events, see the DailyFX Calendar. The ongoing US dollar rally has been aided by weakness across a range of G7 currencies including the Euro, the Japanese Yen, and the British Pound. The Euro continues to battle with lowly growth expectations, exacerbated by energy concerns, the British Pound is mired by weak economic data, while the Japanese Yen is in freefall as the BoJ continues with its ultra-loose monetary policy.   The US dollar continues to press higher and looks set to break above 103.96, the March 2020 high. Above here the US dollar would be back at levels last seen nearly two decades ago. The March resistance will likely hold in the short-term, especially with month-end portfolio rebalancing at the end of the week, but US dollar strength is set to continue in the months ahead.
