Wrong time zone? How do i change the Time Zone on charts?

CasG

Question

Hello,

I started using this platform today, but one thing confuses me. The displayed time axis under every chart shows a time zone I do not recognize. For example, the US market opens at 9:30 AM and closes at 4:00 PM, which is 15:30 and 22:00 here in the Netherlands. The charts display none of these zones though, they even close in the future (for me). 22:00 for me is 07:00 (the next day) on my charts... It's pretty confusing.

Has anyone encountered this and if so, does anyone know how to fix this/get the platform to display my own time? (UTC +1)

Thanks in advance

Hi @CasG, all platforms use the brokers time as they are providing the feed, very few platforms have the function to adjust it such as the Prorealtime platform.

Because IG are not restricted to exchanges to gather prices they are able to provide a 24 hour market from Sunday evening to Friday evening though spreads will change for the out of hours market.

So the charts run on a 24 hour time frame through the week and don't close for most assets classes unless it's a specific stock traded on a specific exchange where you will get a 'market closed' message.

Not sure what you meaning by;

"The charts display none of these zones though, they even close in the future (for me). 22:00 for me is 07:00 (the next day) on my charts... It's pretty confusing."

Are you referring to the Friday evening IG shut down of all charts?

Hi @CasG thanks for letting us know on this one. I've spoken to our sales ops manager and he's investigating. I'll let you know as soon as we have a resolution / answer.

Hi @JamesIG, I received a call from a Dutch Sales Executive this afternoon. I can fill in a registration form with him and email it to him, after which he'll take care of it. Thank you for your help, both of you :) I'm very excited to start!

Hi @Caseynotes, thank you for your reply. It does clear things up a bit. I had hoped I could change the platform's time zone somehow (like in ProRealTime), but it seems I just have to adjust my own thinking! :P

I tried to explain the shift in time zones, but I think I failed. I did a bit of calculation myself (because I can't find ANY information on the IG website anywhere or previous threads describing this) but the IG time seems to be the AEST (UTC +10) zone. I guess this is obvious to people already here, but for me it was a bit confusing.

Thank you for your help!

Ok @CasG,  that means you have opened an IG Australian account from the Netherlands

I have no clue why or how this happened... It's very frustrating that that wasn't made clear to me at the account creation process, seeing as I filled in my nationality as Dutch and not seeing any reference to the Australian-based website...

I've emailed the Dutch helpdesk to see if they can help me with this. Thank you though

    • US Dollar (DXY) Daily Price and Analysis US Q1 GDP may stall the greenback’s advance. A 20-year high nears for the US dollar. The multi-month US dollar rally continues with the greenback printing a fresh high today ahead of the first look at US Q1 GDP at 12.30 GMT. The US dollar basket (DXY) has been boosted by renewed weakness in the Euro and the Japanese Yen, as investors move from lower-yielding to higher-yielding currencies, while safe-haven flows continue to benefit the greenback. The US growth release later in the session is expected to show a sharp slowdown from the robust Q4 figure of 6.9%. The markets are currently pricing in growth of just 1% for the first three months of this year, with the slowdown mainly due to a reduction in inventory accrual over the quarter. This release is unlikely to move the greenback, unless there is a large miss or beat, as the Fed believe that 2022 US growth will be robust enough to let them tighten monetary policy sharply without damaging the economy. The latest US Core PCE data – the Fed’s preferred inflation reading – is released on Friday and this may have more effect on the US dollar than today’s GDP data. For all market moving economic data and events, see the DailyFX Calendar. The ongoing US dollar rally has been aided by weakness across a range of G7 currencies including the Euro, the Japanese Yen, and the British Pound. The Euro continues to battle with lowly growth expectations, exacerbated by energy concerns, the British Pound is mired by weak economic data, while the Japanese Yen is in freefall as the BoJ continues with its ultra-loose monetary policy.   The US dollar continues to press higher and looks set to break above 103.96, the March 2020 high. Above here the US dollar would be back at levels last seen nearly two decades ago. The March resistance will likely hold in the short-term, especially with month-end portfolio rebalancing at the end of the week, but US dollar strength is set to continue in the months ahead.
